In a significant development within the world of football, Fabio Paratici is set to leave his role as joint sporting director at Tottenham Hotspur, following the conclusion of the January transfer window. He will transition to a similar position at Fiorentina, marking a noteworthy shift in his career.
Paratici’s journey back to Spurs began in mid-October when he resumed his full-time duties alongside Johan Lange, who had recently been elevated from technical director to a more prominent role. Previously, Paratici held the title of managing director of football at Tottenham from 2021 until 2023, a tenure that ended with his resignation following a FIFA-imposed ban related to financial misconduct allegations during his time at Juventus. After appealing this ban, he was permitted to return to Spurs in a consultancy capacity.
Now, as he prepares to return to Italy, Paratici's move comes in part due to changes in his personal life. His goal at Fiorentina will be to assist the club in avoiding relegation from Serie A. Interestingly, his departure has been anticipated; early January saw Spurs winger Manor Solomon cut short his loan at Villarreal to join Fiorentina, a move that raised eyebrows and hinted at Paratici's impending exit.
When asked about Paratici's future involvement with the club, Spurs manager Thomas Frank humorously responded, "Good question, maybe you know," before emphasizing that Paratici was still dedicated to Tottenham.
Vinai Venkatesham, the chief executive of Spurs, stated: "We have mutually agreed that Fabio will return to Italy after the January transfer window closes, aligning with his wish to go back home. Expressing his gratitude, Paratici remarked, "I want to thank Vinai and the board for facilitating my desire to return to Italy and join Fiorentina. I have cherished my time at Tottenham, but this opportunity, combined with my need to be closer to home, influenced my decision to make this change."
