The Dodgers are kicking off their spring training by welcoming 32 non-roster players this season, which notably includes 11 athletes who have previously played in the major leagues along with several of their most promising prospects.
Mark your calendars! Pitchers and catchers will report for duty on Thursday, followed closely by the first practice session on Friday. The entire team is set to arrive next Monday, February 16, with the initial full-squad workout scheduled for February 17.
Among the 11 seasoned players invited, we find a mix of pitchers like Cole Irvin and Ryder Ryan (notably the older brother of pitching prospect River Ryan), Garrett McDaniels (who was a Rule 5 pick and returned to the Dodgers after making 10 appearances with the Angels last season), and Jordan Weems (who has a total of 144 MLB appearances spread across four different teams). Other experienced players include pitchers Carlos Duran and Wyatt Mills, as well as catchers Chuckie Robinson and Seby Zavala. Infielders such as Ryan Fitzgerald and Nick Senzel, along with outfielder Matt Gorski, are also part of this experienced group.
The Dodgers are not just focused on experience; they are also looking at their future stars. Their outfield prospect lineup features names like Josue DePaula and Zyhir Hope, both of whom have made it onto Baseball America's Top 100 preseason prospects list. Additionally, Kendall George, who impressively stole 100 bases while playing for Class-A Great Lakes last season, has been invited. The two young prospects acquired from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Dustin May last July—James Tibbs III and Zach Ehrhard—are also joining the ranks.
